nancy wilson was AMAZING. i absolutely loved the performance...and it was opened by no other than the lance bryant quartet! so there was lance bryant on sax and voice, mulgrew miller on piano, yoron israel on drums and john lockwood on bass. it's surreal, i guess, when a jazz piece you're learning in class is composed by that guy who's sitting on the stage playing his heart out. but wow. it sounded like i was at a recording studio or something...was absolutely breathtaking.

and nancy wilson? she is a legend. she is past compare. there is a reason why she cut 70 albums. omg she has such stage presence you can't help but warm to her. best concert EVAR.

i love the new music building.

it is a bright sunny day out there, the kind of day you execute rosenbergs on. snow's fresh and melting.

i was sent to requisition stuff. requisition. reh-kwee-see-tzsion. sounds so soviet, only i'm not requisitioning grain, i'm requisitioning a crate of water. it's like inquisition, only with goods instead of words.
beethoven + dramatic heavy snow outside = awesome. like having your own visualizer.

tonight's snow smells of seoul garden and tastes of bitterness

music of the moment - daniel powter - suspect
mood of the moment - sexual, in a dancing way
her face is a map of the world, is a map of the world..
you can see she's a beautiful girl, she's a beautiful girl..
everything around her is a silver pool of light;
people who surround her feel the benefit of it
it makes you calm;
she holds you captivated in her palm…

suddenly i see (suddenly i see)
this is what i wanna be
suddenly i see (suddenly i see)
why the hell it means so much to me (suddenly i see)
this is what i wanna be
suddenly i see (suddenly i see)
why the hell it means so much to me

i feel like walking the world, like walking the world..
you can hear she's a beautiful girl, she's a beautiful girl..
she fills up every corner like she's born in black and white;
makes you feel warmer when you're trying to remember
what ya heard;
she likes to leave you hanging on a word…

suddenly i see (suddenly i see)
this is what i wanna be
suddenly i see (suddenly i see)
why the hell it means so much to me (suddenly i see)
this is what i wanna be
suddenly i see (suddenly i see)
why the hell it means so much to me

and she's taller than most,
and she's looking at me.
i can see her eyes looking from the page of a magazine.
she makes me feel like i could be a tower,
a big strong tower, yeah.

the power to be, the power to give, the power to see, yeah yeah…
(suddenly i see)
she got the power to be, the power to give, the power to see, yeah yeah…
(suddenly i see)
she got the power to be, the power to give, the power to see, yeah yeah yeah…
(suddenly i see)
she got the power to be, the power to give, the power to see, yeah yeah…
(suddenly i see)
she got the power to be, the power to give, the power to see, yeah yeah!

suddenly i see (suddenly i see)
this is what i wanna be
suddenly i see (suddenly i see)
why the hell it means so much to me (suddenly i see)
this is what i wanna be
suddenly i see (suddenly i see)
why the hell it means so much to me.

(suddenly i see)
ohh oh yea yeaa
suddenly i see (suddenly i see)
why the hell it means so much to me (suddenly i see)
yeaaa yea
suddenly i see (suddenly i see)
why the hell it means so much to me.

i've looked at the word "suddenly" so often it looks weird.

a british journalist in afghanistan
on a side note: i may just switch back to windows from my mac. it's wonderful and all, but it's just conked out on me again - i have a cd stuck in the drive because the drive mouth does not align with the slot on the case. i don't know how it happened - the damn thing's warped up the middle. and i can't pop it open because that would Void the Warranty. it wouldn't be so bad if it weren't a bloody reserve cd i.e. i now have checked a cd that should be staying in the library. joy.
HAPPY NATIONAL GOOD LOOKING PERSON DAY!!1

if you don't get it, let me know and i will enlighten you.

in any case, it's actually legitimately snowing here. well, snowing's a mild term to use for it. it's fucking hailing. the "snow" is actually icy pellets, i.e. basically frozen rain. so walking outside is pain. it's like the torrential rain during the nescacs. when things falling out of the sky bounce off your jacket and crater the snow, you know you're in trouble.

plus it's supposed to rain later, around half an hour from now. joy joy happy happy joy joy joy.

although i did go sledding down the president's lawn on trays stolen from the dining hall. THAT was fun.

there is a formula for the beer goggle effect.

""A formula rating of less than one means no effect. Between one and 50 the person you would normally find unattractive appears less "visually offensive".

Non-appealing people become suddenly attractive between 51 and 100. At more than 100, someone not considered attractive looks like a super model.""

BAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!!

*snigger*. but it's true. the one thing i do not like about the mac (sacrelige! blasphemy!) is its total opacity. i can't get into the bare-bones of it without the utter frustration of not knowing where to start. maybe it's the 10-15 years of growing up on windows. maybe it's the blasted incomprehensibility of terminal. but ask me to do sudo, and i'll cheerfully bite your head off unless you teach me.

on another note - i [heart] polinka the husky-alsatian dog! additional kudos to those who got the crime and punishment reference. i'll put pictues up once i get them.
back in boston. for the record, it's -12ºC/10ºF out there and WINDY. arg. nosleep today woo. general update of what i did on sunday - sleep in, go for awesome breakfast at upmarket french cafe thing, wander around the area and get more cheese, take a bus to volunteer park to climb the water tower (another outing courtesy of bob the receptionist, who is amazing and wonderful and really really nice), wander down broadway en route to the moore, drop in at the dilettante chocolate place and die of chocolate overload and talk to mike and basically really enjoy seattle. it's really pleasant. definately will go back sometime. must try the argentinian restaurant, and go back to la vita bella. foodness!

ok have half an hour to class, and not done homework. must rectify situation.
i am writing this from the absolute bliss of my bed here in the hotel. after being on my feet for the WHOLE DAY, it's wonderful to just sit and relax and drown in pillows while listening to chillout music and bossanova and eating potatobread and homemade cheese with jamaican spices. awesomeness. we even had cold dunganess crab before this, from the fish market. it was SO GOOD. ahhhhh.

ok i'm gonna just stone now. we walked all the way around the world and then some.

irony is leaving 2ºC seattle for 66ºF phoenix arizona to go to -2 gabillionºC boston. there are people wearing -shorts- out there..

man of the year is a marvellously wonderfully suspenseful satire on the political process today. everyone should watch it.

did i mention i gotta job? i gotta job. at the new granoff centre to be exact. as a box office assistant. i even append that to the end of my emails now, because i keep forgetting to remove it when i don't email in an official capacity. in any case, i just hang around the box office, provide tickets, sell tickets, book tickets, occasionally panic when we have to get something out, and do odd jobs. like my first day - i built bookshelves.

the prefabricated ones, not the actual "do-it-yourself-from-raw-wood" ones, of course. was rewarded with communal twizzlers because my boss went to staples and brought them back. plus free pizza for luch, and i'm already enjoying my job. probably will change my mind when the huge deluge of events hits us on april, but until then i'm fine :)

anyways. in seattle now (!! to see aunt who is here in transit), and it's kinda chilly. as a testament to my adaptation in weather, –2ºC is "kinda chilly". warm is above zero. huh. there's a really awesome receptionist here at the hotel we're staying at. he's a foodie, so we've got a TON of good restaurants to go to. the location of the hotel is really central as well. we're on 2nd ave and virginia, so within walking distance of EVERYWHERE. we walked to the seattle centre last night trying to find la vita bella, which is an AMAZING italian restaurant. it was six blocks away from the hotel, we walked at least 30. hur. but it was very worth it.

IN ANY CASE i shall head out now! no time to waste! only 24 hours to go!

Friday, February 02, 2007

allnighter again, woot. but played pool, wandered around campus, hunted howard teh shloopy undulator and bummed around on rooftops so all things considered this was good times. going to seattle in 7 hours, not packed yet. have class and things. life is awesome. tehshit.

winter bash was fun, amusing. o'course the fallout was even more amusing in a slightly twisted way. the kind of twisted where you groan and bury head in pillow. funfun.

omg i needs a dues ex machina.
